WARNING: Mosquito Threat in Duxbury

Duxbury parents,

DYSA has been alerted by the Town of Duxbury that mosquitos carrying Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) have been detected in our area.  As a result, the risk level in Duxbury and neighboring communities has been raised to MODERATE.  The risk in certain nearby towns has even been raised to HIGH.

PLEASE TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID MOSQUITO BITES -- use mosquito repellent, wear loose fitting clothing with long sleeves and pants, and consider going indoors at the times when mosquitos are most active (the hours surrounding dusk and between dusk and dawn), etc.

Both Coppens/Chandler and Lincoln Street fields have nearby swampy areas and, as a result, have large populations of mosquitos present.  Please avoid these areas in the early morning and late afternoon / evening.

-- DYSA

Important Message Regarding Jack Ullathorne

It is with a very heavy heart that we share news of the passing of Jack Ullathorne.

Mr. Ullathorne was one of the most influential figures in the development of soccer in the town of Duxbury.  He worked tirelessly to teach and inspire others by sharing his deep knowledge and endless passion for soccer throughout our community and beyond.  Many of the state championships and great players Duxbury has produced over the years can be tied directly back to his efforts.  More importantly, Mr. Ullathorne inspired an entire generation of players that now, having hung up their own cleats, are out on the fields coaching the players of today and tomorrow.

Beyond his contributions to Duxbury on the soccer fields, Mr. Ullathorne was always warm and friendly, and quick with something nice to say.  He was a truly special person and will be deeply missed.  Duxbury Youth Soccer wishes to offer our deepest condolences to the family and dear friends of Mr. Ullathorne.

Mr. Ullathorne's obituary can be viewed here.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, February 8th, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Shepard Funeral Home in Kingston (216 Main Street).
